Think you might need a writer?

The first thing to do is to email me. Let me know your needs, how you think I could help -

and, if possible, an idea of your budget.

If what you’re looking for is complicated, or if you want to talk through some options, then we can chat further over phone or video (or even in person if you’re in or near Birmingham. Mine’s a cappuccino).

I know what you’re thinking. And the answer is… it depends.

I have a standard day rate (currently £360, or £45ph), so the final cost depends on how long the work takes to complete.

And how long it will take is not usually obvious at first.

So, once I know what you’re looking for, I'll probably ask a few more questions about the process to help me to estimate a project fee.

Questions like . . .

  • How much information will you give me to write this - will I have to do additional research?

  • If this is a job you're currently doing yourself, how long is it taking you at the moment?

  • Do you have strong ideas of how the content should be structured, or is that up to me?

  • Is there a style guide or other guidelines that I will need to follow?

  • Do you know exactly where this content will go and how you want it to look on the page?

Don't worry if you don't know any of this yet. For a lot of people, it's "I'll know it when I see it". And that’s fine!

How long is a piece of string?

A blog post or article can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days, depending on things like complexity of subject matter, tone of voice, how many rounds of revisions you want to make (I usually limit people to two!) and whether you need me to upload it onto your CMS and format it.

The time it takes to create content for a brand new website can be even more variable, depending on how far along you are with the site design... and because new ideas inevitably pop up during the process.

Once we've agreed on the initial tasks, I will propose an estimated time and cost, and then I’ll start work. I’ll keep in touch as I go along.

For some clients, we agree a fixed fee per piece of writing and I invoice after each submission.

For most clients, things are a little more loose, so I use Toggl Track to log the time as I work, and invoice at the end of each month.

Ready? Then let’s get started.

Writing. Editing. Proof reading.

Whether you need a couple of articles, or a complete site rewrite, I can help.
